Picosecond
Upgrades
If you are using a flashlamp-based
system with a linear-focused or side-window photomultiplier
detector, then we would recommend the following upgrade
package.
- Replace the existing photomultipler, dynode chain, discriminator and high voltage power supply with one of our new TBX detection modules. The TBX range offers <180ps typical timing jitter FWHM and is available in cooled and uncooled packages*. A simple adapter flange is all that is required (existing optics can be used in most cases) and these are available "off the shelf" to suit a range of lifetime systems.
- Replace the flashlamp excitation source with one of our new NanoLED laser diodes. Laser diodes are available at 400nm, 635nm, 650nm and 660nm nominal and produce <200ps optical pulse duration (<100ps typical). LED sources are also available at other wavelengths. Again, a simple adapter flange is usually all that is required. The NanoLED controller generates it's own NIM synchronisation pulse for connection directly to the TAC, and the flashlamp's start detector and discriminator are not used.
*For applications requiring the ultimate in timing performance we also offer microchannel plate (MCP) detector packages. See the 5000U-09 accessory page for more details.
