Can Raman be used for micro analysis?
The newest generation of Raman microscopes can be easily
used to obtain micro-analysis of samples. The Raman microscope is a non-destructive
form of analysis - simply place the sample under the microscope, focus,
and make a measurement.
A true confocal Raman microscope can be used for the analysis of micron size particles or volumes. It can even be used for the analysis of thin film layers and laminars. Without confocal optics, the volume sampled will not be controlled and the volume analyzed will be much larger.
The Raman microscope generally will consist of an optical microscope. This means that it can be used to view the sample under investigation and to capture microscope images of the sample.
